This is a problem with 2016 for Mac, under Sierra. The export hangs and never completes. If there is no file with the same name and a.pdf extension, then it sometimes completes the export but the process window stays open. I can use a Mac extension to save as PDF from the print dialog, but the native export in Word always fails. The file could not be accessed. Try one of the following: - Make sure the specified folder exists. - Make sure the folder that contains the file is not read-only. - Make sure the file name does not contain any of the following characters:? - Make sure the file/path name doesn't contain more than 218 characters.
When opening some files in Excel, our users are getting a pop up that says, 'another user' is using this file. We know that no one else is using it, and if they close it and open it again, they don't get the error, or if they click notify me, it tells them within roughly 30 seconds that the file can be accessed, and if they don't click ok to edit the file immediately they get the read only pop up. I've had this issue in the past; backing the file up, deleting it, and restoring it seemed to fix the problem. I've tried backing the files up, deleting and restoring them, and it didn't fix anything, I've changed the protected view settings in Excel, and nothing seems to make a difference. This occurs more frequently when a user is trying to open multiple files at once, but also happens if they are just opening one file.

The files in question are on a Network Attached Storage Device if they makes any difference. I've done a bit of research, and all I can find is that this is an issue with Office 2010 and no one seems to have a solution. She has the Preview Pane turned on in Explorer.
The process is: Click 1 selects the file, preview pane opens the file AND LOCKS IT in order to produce preview. Click 2 opens the file in relevant application, but preview pane still has a lock so app throws an error and opens it read-only. Kill it permanently: The preview pane file lock is normally only a second or two, so the problem can appear to be intermittent.
